Tennis players can look forward to 13 clay courts and much more activity than
is typical of large chain hotels. Peter Burwash International pro Fabio
Vasconcellos runs the programs, which include daily clinics and weekly round
robins (the latter draw 30 to 40 players during the busy mid December to April
high season). The staff also guarantees to find you a match, drawing on the 100
or so active tennis members or on a stable of locals. There is also a very
active Rio Mar Tennis Association, which runs tournaments roughly once each
month most of which guests are welcome to join. PBI named this Westin the
"Site of the Year" in 1999, an award given to the resort in
recognition of supportive management.
